A pair of Westman curlers have been honoured as co-winners of the 2014 Pat Spiring Award by their fellow competitors at the Safeway Championship. Neepawa skip Kelly Robertson and Brandon’s Team Fowler third Allan Lyburn were selected as the first recipients of the new award. The award, established in memory of Pat Spiring by the Spiring family in conjunction with CurlManitoba and the Curling For Life Endowment Fund, recognizes competitive spirit, love of the game, respect for the traditions of the sport of curling, as well as on-ice curling ability. The competing players were asked to nominate competitors in the 20th anniversary Safeway Championship for the award based on their season long observation of the teams as well as during the championship event. The award was presented on behalf of the Spiring family and CurlManitoba by Joelle Brown.
